I think this is a pretty obvious one and the best all around spot we can tell you about! This should be your first consideration – and it’s fun to make a date day out of exploring it to see if it feels like you. Take a picnic basket and brunch with your fiance in front of the San Diego Natural History Museum and History Museum (Both of which are rad places to have your San Diego Wedding too. Or better yet – in front of the Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden in Balboa Park is one of our favorite spots for Engagement Photos because of the exquisite reflecting pool and the cool architecture of the building. It’s really important to hire someone who has been here before and knows all the secret spots for your photos (psst. we mean us) If you’re looking for something that truly pays homage to San Diego’s history we highly recommend doing your engagement pictures at the Spanish Art Village. Eclectic, warm and welcoming, and colorful is the best way to describe this little hidden gem.
And you’re not limited to just one! We can spend hours traversing around Balboa Park and get such a wide variety of photos for your engagement that you’ll have a hard time picking one photo for your save the dates and to announce your wedding date to your friends and family.
If you want something that is more relaxed and involves water, don’t look up Scripps Pier. Technically this gem of a location for engagement photos is in La Jolla but don’t let that stop you from considering it for your engagement pics. If you have an affinity for the ocean we highly recommend you consider this location. Whether it’s a foggy or a sunny day this location is perfect. There is a beautiful boardwalk to shoot underneath that has complete symmetry to add some interesting elements to your engagement photos. This location is perfect if you want to get some sand between your toes and have a relaxed and intimate engagement photo session. The plus that unlike most beaches in San Diego for your engagement photos – this location is still relatively a diamond in the rough. It’s not empty per say but it’s a lot less busy than other beach locations in the San Diego area for photos.

Presidio Park is a great place for engagement photos thats a bit off the beaten path. We haven’t done engagement photos at presidio park before but we’ve shot an elopement at Junipero Serra Museum which is in the park. And it’s frickin gorgeous! The whole park is a great and quiet place to do photos where you’ll be free from onlookers. And it has sweeping views of San Diego which is simply magical at sunset.
We’re huge fans of Spanish architecture here at Fig + Willow so this place holds a special place in our hearts. From tiled walkways to symmetrical arches that just make us swoon. This location has a lot of beauty and potential if you want a dreamy and romantic engagement photo location in San Diego.
