Best Locations to do Engagement Photos in Joshua Tree National Park

If you are thinking about having your engagement photos taken in Joshua Tree National Park I am SO glad you’re here. A lot of our adventurous couples love doing their engagement photos at Joshua Tree National Park – and for good reason – it’s flippin’ gorgeous. If you love bohemian desert vibes and want that in your engagement photos – definitely consider Joshua Tree. Just don’t come June – September it’s too dang hot! Besides that the weather should be pretty good so you can have relaxed and intimate engagement photos. Keep reading to find out where you should do your engagement photos in Joshua Tree!

Most of the best spots for photos are in a few mile radius of each other. Since the majority of the prettiest places in Joshua Tree are in a tight cluster – in order to find these locations you have to enter from the town of Joshua Tree going south and then you’ll be on the main road to these locations. If you go the other way it can be miles and miles before you find any cool spots. So for us, we normally meet our couples at the northern entrance and then go in together. There is very little cell service in Joshua Tree so be aware of this! We’ll help coordinate everything beforehand so your engagement session is stress free. We hope our list helps inspire you and decide whether or not you want to do your engagement photos in the Southern California desert.

The following are our favorite three places in Joshua Tree National Park for engagements photos:

1) Hidden Valley

The first picture on this page with the couple on the rocks is Hidden Valley. This is a good area to get super epic desert engagement photos at if you love the look of smooth limestone and towering rocks. Not named after the Hidden Valley Ranch dressing! This is a pretty easily accessible spot from the entrance of Joshua Tree so will often be a perfect first stop. The coolest thing about this spot is you can make it as epic as you want. You and your boo will look perfect standing in front of the rocks, or if you’re feeling extra adventurous, can climb on the rocks. We love this spot because this unique formation of rocks is really unique and we can’t think of anywhere else that looks quite like this.

#2) Rattlesnake Canyon At Indian Cove

Don’t worry – there aren’t (many) rattlesnakes. This is the high desert though so they do exist. This area is perfect for your desert engagement photos if you want to have LOTS of Joshuas and rocks in the background. This is my personal favorite because I’m obsessed with the uniqueness of Joshua Trees and they make incredibly interesting backgrounds in photos. And there’s so many of them! Perfect for sweeping epic shots with lots in the background, or some closeups with you and your fiancé.

Cool fact: Did you know that Joshua Trees are as unique as our fingerprints? No two Joshua Trees are exactly alike. One of my favorite things doing at Joshua Tree is trying to memorize how each tree looks and finding similarities. They really are so unique.

#3 Cholla Cactus Garden

The cholla cactus garden is a little off the beaten path and is closer to Palm Springs than it is to Joshua Tree itself. It takes a while to drive there but is the perfect spot to end your engagement session. We know they look soft and fuzzy to the touch – we promise that they’re not. Please do not touch the cacti! They are super cute and make for a really unique vibe for your joshua tree engagement photos. The cactus garden is a sprawling oasis with winding paths that goes deep into the desert. Miles and miles of adorable cacti to take your engagement photos with.
