Innsu and Yuna picked Scripps Pier for Engagement Photos and it was the PERFECT choice! I had originally offered them Balboa Park Engagement Photos and Scripps Pier – and they picked Scripps. The session couldn’t have been more fun. I mean who doesn’t like dipping their toes in the sand and feeling the ocean at your ankles? (pssst. my husband. my husband hates the ocean. I have no idea why or how.)
Normally for beach engagement photos I plan the session around sunset so we can get that delicious golden light bouncing off the ocean waves — but the world had different plans for Innsu and Yuna’s Beach Engagement Session. It was CLOUDY the entire session. But that did NOT stop us from creating some beautiful imagery that will last for generations.
Whenever I shoot at a new location I always like reading about the history of it and how it came to be — especially for such a landmark like Scripps Memorial Pier. It’s been around since 1905 and was replaced once during the 1930’s due to stability concerns. You can read more about it here!
I always think it’s interesting when I find historical locations for engagement sessions and use it for a TOTALLY different purpose than its original intent. Like for Scripps – it was meant to collect ocean water and here I am standing underneath it taking san diego engagement photos. Crazy, right?!
For their outfits, they came looking super classy and authentic. The absolute best! Innsu wore a simple white polo paired with black pants. Simple and to the point. Yuna wore the most beautiful casual orange dress that perfectly complemented Innsu’s outfit. I’ve been really obsessed with oranges and vibrant colors lately (honestly, I think it’s more than a phase and is here to stay). It was exceptionally stunning on a cloudy day where the light is very subdued.
La Jolla Shores engagement photos are some of my favorites. It’s such a quaint little town right next to San Diego and is perfect for a beach adventure photoshoot. If you love the ocean, you’d love La Jolla. I do a lot of Las Vegas Wedding Photography these days so when I get clients that want me to come out to the ocean — I am ALWAYS down. I grew up being able to see the ocean from my front doorstep and it’s always a treat to feel the water lapping at my feet and feel the salty ocean breeze on my face.
Engagement sessions are really special to me. A lot of photographers don’t take the time to really give these sessions the time they deserve but they are SO important to me for a few reasons. The first being – engagements feel SO SHORT. My engagement was almost a year and I swear it went by in a month. Secondly, it’s just such a special in-between transition period. How often … besides engagement sessions do we really take pause to reflect on the change we are going through? Say .. a career change. Do you take photos to celebrate going into a new field? Likely not. But maybe you should! Be proud for where you came from and where you’ve yet to go.
For Innsu and Yuna … they had a similarly long engagement session and are actually getting married this weekend. And felt like their engagement period FLEW by. COVID disrupted their normal wedding plans so they’re having an intimate backyard wedding in San Diego with just immediate family in attendance.
Wishing these lovebirds the happiest of lives together even during these weird COVID times. <3
