Nicole and Ben came all the way from Texas and got married in Red Rock Canyon located a few miles outside of Las Vegas in attendance of a handful of their family and good friends. I asked why they picked Las Vegas to get married and they said they wanted something different and the ease of a Las Vegas Wedding. Well they got it! We met up at the beginning of the boardwalk at Red Springs and ventured inside to find their perfect spot to say their nuptials.
Red Rock Canyon is a wonderful place for a Las Vegas wedding. As I’ve mentioned in past posts – intimate weddings and elopements are anything you want them to be. Gone are the days where the only option is a cheesy Elvis wedding with neon lights. More and more couples are choosing to elope in the desert surrounded by the beautiful rock formations and unparalleled views. This could be you.
It was really serendipidous that I photographed their wedding at Red Springs. Just the day before, I had been writing about the best places to do engagement photos in Las Vegas and Red Springs made that list! Funnily enough, I’ve now photographed two things there. And BOTH times were during Winter. Last time I was at Red Springs, it was for engagement photos. And this time at Red Springs – wedding! The reason I mention this is because during literally every other season Red Springs becomes a beautiful desert oasis full of lush greenery, a flowing stream in the middle that is the runoff from Mount Charleston, and tall, beautiful blossomed trees. It’s still a beautiful place for a wedding during the winter though, don’t get me wrong! There is something very unique about the wintery grey trees against the backdrop of beautiful red rocks in the background that is equally magical. Another plus of Red Springs is that if you plan on having guests at your wedding – Red Springs is easily the most ADA accessible of any of the places to have your wedding in Red Rock Canyon. There is a smooth boardwalk with railing most of the way that can easily accomodate your family members and friends that want to attend your wedding. I often get questions about this so if you want to have a Red Rock Canyon wedding and have a concern about accessibility – pick Red Springs.
During Ben + Nicole’s Wedding we discovered together is that judging your wedding time off of Golden Hour is NOT always a surefire thing. I did my research as always on the best times to do couples portraits and it said sun was setting at 5:38PM. So of course, we tried to have their portrait session around 4:30. WELL, one thing to know Is that Red Springs is just … different. There is a massive mountain that blocks the sun much earlier than expected so we ended up venturing out towards Calico Basin and Red Rock Canyon to do their couples photos about 30 minutes in. The pictures at Red Springs were gorgeous, but I knew they wanted that soft creamy light that only Golden Hour can give. So I pitched the idea to them of driving over and it was picturesquely perfect.
Wishing these Texan lovebirds nothing but the happiest of lives together and thank you for having your wedding in Las Vegas.
